Melanie Shouse died on Saturday, January 30th. For many of us at USAction and TrueMajority, which had featured Melanie in a video action alert urging Congress to pass health care reform, the email message came as a surprise both somber and shocking.

Jobs for America Now
The current jobs crisis is not just an economic crisis, but a moral one as well. To address this emergency, a sweeping coalition of over 60 national organizations has come together to form Jobs for America Now. As part of the coalition’s efforts to spur job creation and put America back to work, USAction supports a five-pronged approach to creating jobs in the short-term and ending the unemployment crisis. USAction Supports Afghan Exit But Opposes Troop Escalation: Too Great a Risk, Too High a Cost
USAction today praised President Obama's goal of a concrete end to the war in Afghanistan, coupled with political and military benchmarks for success, but expressed profound concern over plans to commit at least 30,000 new troops to the war effort. Read our full press release.
How To Pay For Health Care
Congress can pay for health care reform partly by finding savings in the existing health care system and partly by raising revenue without hurting families who are already struggling to pay for health care and other necessities. Read the Citizens for Tax Justice report on financing health care.
Let's Get It Done! — Taking Action When Congress returned to work after their August recess, USAction affiliates and partner organizations participated in at least 102 events in 20 states in support of quality, affordable health care with a public option. View some of the media coverage.
"...contrary to what we're getting from most of the cable news reports, progressives are already out-organizing and outnumbering the right." The Nation recently covered our work for health care reform.
USAction is playing an active role in a historic campaign for a uniquely American health care solution that gives you a guarantee
of coverage and real choice: keep your private insurance plan or join a new public
health insurance plan so you are no longer at the mercy of the private
insurance industry.
Thousands of people from around the country came to Washington DC on

we don't want to wait any longer for quality,

Congressman Roy Blunt Takes More Than Half a Million Dollars From Insurance Lobby; Opposes Health Care Reform, New Ad Charges
A radio spot that aired on four radio stations in Springfield, Missouri — the district of U.S. Rep. Roy Blunt — charges the Republican leader with doing the insurance lobby's bidding in opposing health care reform after accepting more than $500,000 in contributions from the insurance industry during his congressional career. The ad is sponsored by USAction and USAction's Missouri affiliate, Missouri Progressive Vote Coalition.

Cut Wasteful Military Spending
The Senate recently voted to strip unneeded F-22 jets
out of the Defense Authorization bill, but
the journey towards a safe and sane future is far from over.
USAction and TrueMajority are working with their members and coalition partners to keep pressure on any member of Congress who continues to spend billions on weapons we do not need while lining their campaign war chests with money from weapons builders. Join

Take Back the Economy
We
didn't cause this economic crisis—but we sure are paying for the banks'
mistakes. Easily one of the worst actors is Ken Lewis' Bank of America.
With loans, credit cards & other products to almost half of all
Americans, they played a central role in creating this recession. They
took $45 billion in taxpayer bailouts while spending billions
on bonuses, lavish salaries and parties—and then fired thousands of
workers.
B-of-A has survived because of our $45 billion
taxpayer bailout, making us the single largest shareholder - and that
gives us a chance to change their ways. So Service Employees
International Union and other progressive groups
are calling for the resignation or firing of CEO Ken Lewis. Learn more and take
action.
